Go Green With Solar Panels: What Does ‘Go Green’ Mean?

Solar panels can lower electricity bills in residential and commercial settings, a tremendous benefit to all owners. But solar panel installations can do much more than just save money: they also help the environment. Clean, reliable, and plentiful solar energy will address many of the challenges facing our world today, especially air quality and climate change.

How do solar panels help the environment?

  • Solar panels reduce a business or household’s reliance on energy supplied from the traditional power grid. Energy supplied directly from the sun has minimal, if any, impact on the environment.
  • Coal, natural gas, hydroelectric generation (dams), nuclear power plants, and oil currently generate the vast majority of electric power for the grid. Coal mining, oil drilling, fracking (which also requires vast quantities of water), installing pipelines for natural gas, storing radioactive waste from nuclear plants, and damming rivers for hydroelectric dams all have enormous negative consequences for the environment. Solar power relies on the sun, is renewable, and uses no water.
  • According to the Environmental Protection Agency, electricity generation from burning fossil fuels is the largest single source of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. In 2013 electricity generation resulted in 31% of the greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere – more than all the cars, trucks, and other modes of transportation combined.
  • Electricity generated by solar panels creates no greenhouse gases and reduces the carbon footprint of any home or business.
  • Solar panels release no poisonous gases, smoke, or other air pollution. In addition, solar power reduces the need for trucks, trains, and ships to transport coal, oil, or gas.

Installing solar panels will help the environment and allow future generations to live in a better world, cleaner world.

So, what are you waiting for? Go green with solar panels today!
